- filter elements for use with general purpose filters and intergrals f*100 and cf*dr100; filter elements for use with coalescent filters fc*101 3/4" and 1"
- If the later MLS gaskets are installed with the heads that have the recess, the engine will leak coolant to the outside from the recessed area in the deck surface. ’99-’04 LS1 – The LS1 switched to center-bolt rocker covers in ’99, so these engines came with a new head.
Notes: Engine Cylinder Head Gasket -- Thickness: 1.05mm; Diameter: 105.4mm; With OEM # 12637785, 98062785; Gasket Design: Multilayer Steel (MLS)
- Compressed thickness of the head gasket-- Usually 0.040", but varies with gasket manufacturer and application; Piston top volume-- If the piston is dished, domed, or dimpled, that has an affect on compression ratio. Combustion chamber volume-- How much open space is in the head above the cylinder
The OEM engines utilize a.051-inch thick head gasket to compensate for this,” explains DiBlasi. “Aftermarket piston companies have made both pistons that are out of the deck, below deck, and even with the deck. Customer requirements and application typically dictate which route we will choose.
- Mar 20, 2012 · LS2 would be aluminum, LQ4 and LQ9's are cast iron so that's just a quick visual. The cast iron 6.0's have "6.0" cast into the block in 2 locations that I've found out, (around the water pump and behind the bellhousing) Since you had the heads off you should know right away whether it's an LQ4 or LQ9.

- Available in 3.997", 4.056", 4.150", and 4.174" bore sizes. These gaskets use a steel O-ring that cuts into the head to provide the strongest seal available for boost applications or high compression motors. They do feature the extra tabs for 6-bolt capabilities.
Cylinder Head Gaskets Early LS engines featured composite-type cylinder head gaskets. Around 2002, GM switched to MLS (multi-layer steel) cylinder head gaskets. All remaining gaskets throughout the engines are formed elastic seal-type gaskets that are reusable (depending on condition, of course). The use of MLS cylinder head gaskets is recommended.
- 3) I recommend 11:1 compression on 91 or 93 octane, so order .040 Cometic head gaskets (thinner than the factory MLS .054 thickness). This will give excellent quench and approx 11:1 compression which is no problem on pump gas. 4) Camshaft should be a 23x/24x grind with just over .600 lift.
Edelbrock Performance Cylinder Heads are made in the USA, offering the best in quality and performance. The head flanges are 7/16" thick, and the plenum is constructed of 3.5mm T-6061 aluminum, which means it can easily handle up to 25 lbs of boost - more than enough for most street performance applications.
